AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—At the behest of SGPC appointed Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, the SGPC today hosted a meeting of prominent Sikh seminaries at Teja Singh Samundari Hall to discuss the reconstruction of Gurdwara Gyan Godri Sahib.  Before leaders of various organizations shared their views, ardas was performed by Bhai Rajdeep Singh and hukamnama was read by Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh.
Addressing the meeting, Giani Gurbachan Singh held that the site of Gurdwara Gyan Godhi was important for the Sikhs as it has significant history associated with it.  He added that the entire Sikh community wants the Gurdwara Gyan Godri Sahib to be reconstructed at its original place i.e. on the bank of Ganga River in Haridwar.Several Sikh leaders asked Giani Gurbachan Singh to constitute a committee to lead the movement.  While nodding to this demand, Giani Gurbachan Singh said that a special meeting of five Takht Jathedars will be called in coming days. He added that the constituted committee will hold talks with concerned state governments and leaders to assure reconstruction of Gurdwara Gyan Godri Sahib at Haridwar. “Suggestions of whole Sikh community would also be thoroughly deliberated in the meeting,” he said.
SGPC President Prof. Kirpal Singh Badungar said that it was very unfortunate that Sikh community, who made more than 80% sacrifices for the freedom of India from British regime, was struggling for the reconstruction of its historical shrine. Appealing the concerned governments to ensure reconstruction of Gurdwara Gyan Godri Sahib, he reiterated that the SGPC will continue the struggle till the Gurdwara was re-built.
DSGMC President Manjit Singh GK expressed his belief that the Gurdwara Gyan Godri Sahib will be reconstructed within short time as the whole Sikh community has united side-lining their differences.
Damdami Taksal chief Baba Harnam Singh Dhumma said that it was an extremely sensitive issue and the Sikh leaders need to pursue talks with local religious leaders of Haridwar. He advised the SGPC to keep struggle peaceful.
SGPC General Secretary Amarjit Singh Chawla, Bibi Jagir Kaur, Baba Teja Singh Khudda Kurala Nirmal Sampardai, Chief Khalsa Diwan’s General Secretary Santokh Singh Sethi, Bhai Surinder Singh Mitha Tiwana, SGPC executive member Gurcharan Singh Grewal, Gurdeep Singh Bhatia (Singh Sabha, Indore) and Bhai Sarwan Singh also addressed the meeting on this occasion and presented their views about the movement to be commenced for reconstruction of Gurdwara Gyan Godri Sahib.
