The National Investigation Agency will for now not probe the case relating to the recovery of PETN in the Uttar Pradesh assembly. The Ministry for Home Affairs has put the request made by the UP government for an NIA probe on hold for now.
The decision to put on hold the request was taken in the view of the forensic report not being ready as yet. A Home Ministry official informed OneIndia that a fresh decision would be taken after the report is made available. There are contradictory reports on what exactly the substance is. Only the report would make it clear and once that is available a decision on whether to initiate an NIA probe or not will be taken, the official also added.
On July 12, 150 grams of a substance was found in the UP assembly. A day later, Chief Minister of UP, Yogi Adityanath said that the substance was PETN.
The UP government has said that the substance was PETN. However there is no clarity on this as yet. If it turns out that the substance is not PETN, then there would be no need for an NIA probe, the Home Ministry official also said.
