'Rohit Vemula was murdered. They called it suicide, I call it murder. Vemula was killed only because he was dalit,' is how Rahul Gandhi chose to begin his speech at the International Conference on Dr B R Ambedkar in Bengaluru. Rahul Gandhi mocked the BJP for failing to point out Prime Minister Narendra Modo' s shortcomings.
'The emperor is naked and nobody is willing to tell him that. The government doesn't mind writing off corporate loans but will look away when farmers ask for loan waiver,' Rahul Gandhi said. The Congress vice president said that there is currently a systematic capture of India's democratic institution by the Prime Minister.
'For the powerful to capture the present they have to distort the past. To show us they can show us a perfect future they have to show a perfect past. India had great strengths but there were also weaknesses. Nothing alive is ever perfect. The BJP wants to paint a lie over India,' he said. He added that Narendra Modi and the RSS wanted India to surrender its voice.
Rahul Gandhi took pots shots at media as well as the government over demonetisation. 'The media in private called demonetisation 'insanity' but on record they called it a stroke of genius,' he said. Adding that the government was attempting to take India back to an era of oppression and untouchability, Rahul Gandhi called it an attempt to undo Dr B R Ambedkar's efforts.
'The aim is to mutilate the constitution. The idea is to do to one man, one vote what they did to Vemula and Akhlaq,' Rahul Gandhi said.
