Beant “Singh” Assassination Case: Bhai Tara Refuses to Testify In His Defense

CHANDIGARH, Punjab—Khalsitan Tiger Force chief Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara refused to testify in his defense during the recent hearing in the Beant “Singh” assassination case. Notably, Bhai Tara had submitted a six page confession to the court on January 25 in which he had said that he had no regrets for assassinating Beant.
During hearing of case held in the Court of Additional Districts and Session Judge J.S. Sidhu on February 19, the CBI lawyer asked 162 questions to Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara using provisions available under section 313 of Cr.P.C (Code of Criminal Procedure).
Sikh24 has learnt that Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara told the court to take his confessional statement as his final statement.  
Speaking to Sikh24, Bhai Tara’s legal counsel Advocate Simranjit Singh informed that while answering the questions of prosecution lawyer, Bhai Tara said that Shaheed Bhai Dilawar Singh Babbar was the mastermind in assassinating the former Punjab CM Beant “Singh” and he played his role as per directions of Bhai Dilawar Singh. He further informed that Bhai Tara has told the court there Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara did not have a part to play in the assassination and he should be let go by the court.
Meanwhile, the court has recorded Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara’s statement and has deferred next hearing on the case onto March 9.
It may be recalled here that the trial against Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara in Beant assassination case was pending as he had fled to Pakistan after Burail jail break episode while his colleagues Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara and Bhai Paramjit Singh Bheora were addressed life sentence. Bhai Jagtar Singh Tara was arrested from Thailand in December 2014 and was deported to India in January 2015.
