How many such Flyovers built by Builder Nexus could be collapsed similarly and under the threat of Rats in India”? The questions arise as Balbir Singh Sooch-Sikh Vichar Manch astonished to hear all this.
MC-Builder Nexus Alleged:

1.     
Lok Insaaf Party president and Atam Nagar MLA Simarjit Singh Bains have raised questions over the quality of material used. He claimed that during his stint as a councillor, he had raised objection over the matter in Municipal Corporation meetings.
2.     
“Deepak Builders had no experience in construction of flyover, but a senior MC official favoured the contractor. The project was awarded to him, ignoring technical bids during the tenure of the SAD-BJP government,” he alleged…
3.     
Meanwhile, a group of private engineers alleged that the construction was faulty. They demanded that the administration should reconstruct it The Tribune, Chandigarh

“A retaining wall of Gill road flyover in Ludhiana gave in and collapsed on Sunday night. Major tragedy was averted as traffic was moving on the flyover when the incident took place at around 10 pm. No casualty has been reported. MC officials are putting the blame of the incident on rats!

Superintending engineer of Ludhiana MC Dharam Singh, who reached the spot on Sunday night, said rats excavated the sand due to which the incident took place. The garbage dump under the flyover invited rodents and this caused problems, he said.
6.     
Following the incident, Ludhiana mayor Balkar Sandhu, municipal corporation officials and police reached the spot and movement of traffic on the flyover was stopped.

When asked about residents claiming that multiple complaints regarding the flyover were made but no action was taken, Sandhu said,An inquiry will be done and no one will be spared, even if it is a high-ranking official.

“It could have been a major disaster. This flyover is extremely important to Ludhiana’s connectivity,” he added.

Both MP Ravneet Singh Bittu, who visited the spot later in the day, and Balkar Sandhu said only rodents could not have been the reason for behind incident and that inquiry will be conducted. “Action will be taken against officials if any discrepancies are found,” Bittu said.

Meanwhile heavy traffic jams were witnessed at different parts of the city including Jagraon bridge, Samrala chowk, Partap chowk and Gill road. Movement of traffic, which was already disturbed due to closure of Jagraon bridge, deteriorated further after the wall collapse”. HT
