Fresh FIR Against Unknown Police Cops Cover Kotkapura Firing Incident for the First Time
Posted:
08 Aug 2018 08:46 AM PDTFARIDKOT—On the directions of Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh to accept a recommendation of Justice Ranjit Singh Commission, the Punjab police on August 7 registered a fresh FIR in Faridkot against the unknown police cops guilty of opening unprovoked firing on peacefully protesting Sikhs at Kotkapura and Behbal Klan in October-2015. Sikh24 has learnt that the Faridkot police have registered this FIR at the behest of DGP Suresh Arora.
Sources have informed that the fresh FIR has been registered under sections 307 (attempt to murder), 323, 148 and 149 of the IPC and the provisions of the Arms Act against unknown police cops on the complaint of victim Ajit Singh. Notably, Ajit Singh was shot on thighs during the Kotkapura firing incident.
Currently, the FIR has been registered against unknown police cops due to some legal hindrances but the names of guilty police cops will be included during investigation as the Justice Ranjit Singh led Investigation Commission has already disclosed the names of guilty police cops.
On being contacted by the media, the Faridkot SSP Raj Bachan Singh Sandhu confirmed the development. He informed that it is for the first that an FIR has been registered in relation to Kotkapura firing incident as the earlier two FIRs didn’t include Kotkapura incident.
It is pertinent to note here that two FIRs, first against the unknown Sikh protesters and second against unknown Police cops indulged in opening firing on protesting Sikhs at Behbal Klan, were registered by the Faridkot police on October 14 and October 21 respectively following the Kotkapura and Behbal Klan firing incidents.
Under the influence of anti-Sikh mindset prevalent in Punjab during the regime of SAD-BJP’s alliance in Punjab, the first FIR was registered on the complaint of SHO Amarjit Singh under sections 307, 435, 332, 333, 353, 283, 186, 148 and 149 of the IPC, Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act, and sections 3 and 4 of the Damage to Public Property Act. The SHO had accused unknown persons of attacking a police party with swords, stones and firearms when the cops asked the protesters to lift blockade of Kotkapura-Bathinda road in the Behbal Klan village (Faridkot).
However, the sharp wrath among Sikh community had forced the preceding SAD-BJP government in 2015 to register an FIR under sections 302, 307 and 34 of the IPC and sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act against the Police cops guilty of martyring two innocent Sikh youths at Behbal Klan. But the preceding SAD-BJP government had invented a way for shielding the guilty Police cops by hiding their names during the investigation. Even the Justice Zora Singh led Investigation Commission, appointed by the then SAD-BJP led Punjab government, had not disclosed the names of guilty police cops due to which the ruling Congress had annulled his report in April last year.
