SAD (Taksali) Nominates Bir Devinder Singh from Anandpur Sahib Parliamentary Seat

19 Feb 2019 08:45 AM PSTCHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Shiromani Akali Dal (Taksali) has announced to field Bir Devinder Singh from the Anandpur Sahib constituency in the upcoming parliamentary elections. An official statement in this concern was made by the party president Ranjit Singh Brahmpura on February 18.
It is pertinent to note here that the Sarbat Khalsa appointed acting Akal Takht Jathedar Dhian Singh Mand had earlier announced the name of Vikram Sodhi from Anandpur Sahib constituency. Later, controversy had erupted over the nomination of Vikram Sodhi by the Bargari Insaaf Morcha due to which Vikram Sodhi has joined the Bahujan Samaj Party.
Nomination of Bir Devinder Singh and Vikram Sodhi by the two parties from a same constituency might create tussle between them as the duo parties might be a part of forthcoming alliance named Punjab Democratic Alliance. However, the Bahujan Samaj Party had recently indicated that they might not go with the PDA.
On being asked whether the alliance parties had been told about the decision, Brahmpura said, “Our talks with the alliance parties are on. However, we have told them that Bir Devinder Singh will be our party candidate from Anandpur Sahib. Now, he will contest election from the Anandpur Sahib seat.”
On being contacted by the media, the BSP’s state president Rashpal Singh said that he has no information about any decision taken by the SAD (Taksali). “Our talks were on over distribution of ticket, but no final decision was taken. We will discuss the matter if they have announced party candidate from Anandpur Sahib,” he added.
