Bhai Lakhwinder Singh

CHANDIGARH, Punjab (October 30, 2014)—With hard efforts of the Sikh Sangharsh Committtee (SSC), Bhai Lakhwinder Singh (Narangwal) was released earlier today on parole of 28 days from the Burail Jail.

He is facing life imprisonment in assassination case of the former Punjab Chief Minister, Beant “Singh”.  Beant had orchestrated murders of hundreds of innocent Sikhs in Punjab in early 1990s.

Bhai Gurbakhash Singh Khalsa staged hunger strike for 44 days at Gurdwara Amb Sahib, Mohali, for the release of six Sikh political prisoners including Bhai Lakhwinder Singh, following which government had to release some of these prisoners on parole. Bhai Lakhwinder Singh was amongst the detainees who were released at that time.
SSC spokesperson Principal Parwinder Singh Khalsa and leader Jang Singh said that their organization was making every effort to ensure permanent release of Sikh detainees who had completed their terms.  He hoped that the committee’s efforts would yield positive results soon.
Bhai RP Singh, Parminder Singh (Sikh Relief UK), Pawanpreet Singh (SOPW) were also here to welcome the Bhai Sahib.
Although life imprisonment in India is limited to 14 years, hundreds of Sikh detainees are languishing in jails despite having completed their terms.
