AMBALA, Haryana (November 20, 2014)—Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa’s renewed hunger strike is on its sixth day in the campaign to seek the release of Sikh political prisoners.
A memorandum was given to the Deputy Commissioner with a list of seven Sikhs who had completed their jail terms but have not been freed. The DC was requested to hand over the list to Rajnath Singh, Union Minister of Home Affairs.
In addition, members of the Bhartiya Janta Party also visited Bhai Gurbaksh Singh Khalsa earlier today. Namely, RP Singh Saini visited Bhai Khalsa on behalf of BJP Punjab Chief Kamal Sharma.
BJP leaders assured Bhai Khalsa that they will raise the demand to release the Singhs with the Punjab Chief Minister and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The same delegation is also scheduled to meet Rajnath Singh later this week, where they will discuss the matter.
Before starting this second hunger strike, Bhai Gurbaksh Singh had traveled to New Delhi to meet with the Prime Minister. He had also tried to meet with the Punjab Chief Minister, however despite multiple attempts, he was not able to personally handover the list of Singhs to Parkash Badal. In his absence, the list was instead given to the personal assistant of Badal.
Bhai Gurbaksh Singh had a medical check completed after he complained of some pain in his stomach. He was given medical assistance as he continued with the hunger strike.
