‘Delusional’ Modi insulting the Indian nation during foreign visits, says Congress
New Delhi, Apr. 16 (ANI): Taking strong exception to the comments being made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his trips abroad, the Congress Party on Thursday described him as "delusional" and accused him insulting the Indian nation.
Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma told ANI that it was laughable of the Prime Minister to think that India has not achieved anything before he came into power in May 2014.
Dubbing his latest criticism of the Congress Party and the previous UPA regime as characteristic of Modi, Sharma said maligning the achievements of the previous government of Dr. Manmohan Singh lacked basis and was unfounded.
"For him to think and believe that India had achieved nothing before him is delusional. It is an insult to the Indian nation. He needs to be reminded that he inherited a strong economy of two trillion dollars," Sharma told ANI.
"It has become characteristic for the Prime Minister on his foreign tours to malign the previous government and to portray India in a bad light, giving an impression that before he took over, this was a country of corrupt people and it was a country of non-achievers. It is also a symbol of perverse and sick mindset," he added.
The former union minister also claimed that the GDP of India had quadrupled under the decade-long stint of the UPA regime.
In an attempt to remind the current government about the previous government's achievements, Sharma added that, "The agreement that he (the PM) is referring to in Canada while signing the uranium agreement, was the Congress' and the UPA's, which takes the credit, and rightfully so, for being the architect of India's nuclear engagement with the world and for India becoming a part of the global mainstream."
"Never in our history has our Prime Minister conducted himself in this manner on a foreign soil.Never has a Prime Minister used official visits to abuse and malign the opposition," Sharma added.
Modi on Wednesday said that he would clean the 'mess' created by others without naming the Congress, and would take the responsibility of changing the country's image from a scam-tainted to a 'skilled' nation. (ANI)
