Bhai Sukhjit Singh Khose: ‘Akhare’ won’t be allowed on Vaisakhi

Posted: 09 Apr 2016

BATHINDA, Punjab—Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee sevadar Bhai Sukhjit Singh Khose, has stated that ‘Akhare’, or stage performances of folk artists, won’t be allowed on the occasion of Vaisakhi this year. Bhai Khose’s statement is in support of Eknoor Khalsa Fauj, an organization determined to stop the ‘Akharas’ organized each year in village Dialpura Bhaika of Bathinda constituency.
Last Friday, the Eknoor Khalsa Fauj resolved to ensure Vaisakhi remained a religious occasion for Sikhs.  The organization appealed to Panthik Jathebandis to support their initiative.
‘Akharas’ are organized each year in places related to Mai Rajji and Baba Guddarh following the culmination of Sri Akhand Path Sahib on Vaisakhi.  In many villages of Punjab, the trend of organizing ‘Akharas’ following culmination of Sri Akhand Path Sahib is usual.
In 2015, followers of Mai Rajji and Baba Guddarh organized an akhara inside the premises of a Gurdwara in Bathinda, where a singer named Dilpreet Dhillon, along with his crew, sang immodest songs.  Dhillon was accompanied by several performers and dancers who performed as attendees watched.
Bhai Khose said that a violation of the Sikh code of conduct is being committed by the locals of Dialpura Bhaika. He said that after the culmination of Sri Akhand Path Sahib on the eve of Vaisakhi, the ‘Akharas’ are organized to entertain those who have gathered there.
He asserted that his organization would be taking any steps necessary to control any violation of the Sikh code of conduct there.  He said that the Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee is fully committed to preserving the satkar of Guru Granth Sahib and will continue working to stop anti-Sikh elements from increasing their activities in Punjab.
