BREAKING: Sarbjeet Dhunda Agrees to Debate with Sikh Sangat

SAN FRANCISCO, USA—After facing growing opposition, including challenges by Sikh scholars and protests by local Sangat, Bhai Sarbjeet Singh Dhunda has finally agreed to sit down and discuss issues with local Sikhs. Sikh24 has been informed by multiple sources that a discussion will take place today at 3 PM at Gurdwara Sahib of Milpitas (Calaveras St), in which Dhunda and local Sikhs may be able to come up a solution to avoid controversies that are causing splits within the the community here.
Earlier, on April 12, Sarbjeet Singh Dhunda was invited for an open debate during his tour of Fresno and Selma. A number of Sikh scholars, including Dr. Harbhajan Singh from Punjabi University and Dr. Anurag Singh from New Delhi asked Sarbjeet Singh Dhunda to sit down and clear any issues. While the Sikh scholars left the country yesterday to return to India, Sarbjeet Dhunda finally agreed to sit down.
Dhunda has been facing growing protests due to his stance on Sri Jaap Sahib, naam simran and other Sikh beliefs. While Dhunda does not openly speak out against nitnem banis, he has given statements such as “I do read Jaap Sahib because of the requirements mandated by the Panth”. Such statements have landed Dhunda in a controversy as many feel he’s implying that he’s being forced to read banis from Sri Dasam Granth and if he had an option, he would not be reading them.
Jaswant Singh Hothi, president of the Milpitas Gurdwara, said, “Yesterday we, Milpitas gurdwara committee decided that there should an end to this situation, so we proposed to sit down and talk it out. However, the people that were talking from both sides were supposed to set up ground rules so there would be no fight like in the past. However, now they are trying to manipulate that also, and announced the debate today at 3 pm when we are not even aware yet and didn’t confirm. I am talking to Manpreet to clear this mess out.”

ਕੱਲ੍ਹ ਇੱਕ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਸ. ਮਹਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਾਨ ਅਤੇ ਭਾਈ ਮਨਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਸਿੰਘ (ਪ੍ਰੋ ਧੁੰਦਾ ਵਲੋਂ ) ਅਤੇ ਭਾਈ ਰਵਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ, ਭਾਈ ਪਰਮਿੰਦਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਅਤੇ ਜਸਦੀਪ ਸਿੰਘ (ਪ੍ਰੋ ਧੁੰਦਾ ਨਾਲ ਮੱਤਭੇਦ ਗਰੁਪ) ਵਿਚਕਾਰ ਹੋਈ। ਗਲਬਾਤ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਇਹ ਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਹੋਈ ਕਿ ਦੋਵਾਂ ਧਿਰਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਸਦਭਾਵਨਾ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਹੌਲ ਵਿਚ ਬਹਿਕੇ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਸ਼ੁਰੂ ਕਰਨੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ਤਾਂ ਕਿ ਭਾਂਵੇ ਇੱਕ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਵਿਚ ਨਾਂ ਵੀ ਸਹੀ, ਲੰਬੇ ਸਮੇਂ ਦੇ ਵਾਰਤਾਲਾਪ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਕਿਸੇ ਕਿਸਮ ਦੀ ਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਬਣਾਈ ਜਾਣੀ ਚਾਹੀਦੀ ਹੈ ।
ਇਸ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਦੌਰਾਨ ਸਹਿਮਤੀ ਇਸ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਹੋਈ;
੧. ਦੋਵਾਂ ਧਿਰਾਂ ਦੀ ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਗੁਰਦਵਾਰਾ ਮਿਲਪੀਟਸ ਵਿਚ ੩ ਵਜੇ ਬਾਅਦ ਦੁਪਹਿਰ ਹੋਵੇਗੀ, ਭਾਈ ਧੁੰਦਾ ਅੱਜ ਕੱਲ੍ਹ ਮਿਲਪੀਟਸ ਗੁਰਦਵਾਰੇ ਵਿਚ ਕਥਾ ਕਰ ਰਹੇ ਹਨ
੨. ਦੋਵਾਂ ਧਿਰਾਂ ਵਲੋਂ 4 -4 ਸਿੰਘ ਵਾਰਤਾਲਾਪ ਕਰਨਗੇ
੩. ਮੀਟਿੰਗ ਦਾ ਸਮਾਂ ਤਕਰੀਬਨ ੨ ਤੋਂ ੪ ਘੰਟੇ ਹੋਵੇਗਾ

Similar debates have taken place in past, resulting in virtually no outcome. Last year, in May 2015, a similar debate was organized in Turlock where Dhunda and his supporters walked out when they were asked questions on Sikh Rehit Maryada and Sri Dasam Granth.
