Tributes have been paid to a prominent member of Leamington Sikh community who died after suffering a sudden heart attack. Tarlochan Singh was taken ill on Sunday (March 3) during a debate organized by the management committee at the Leamington & Warwick Gurdwara Sahib temple. The 81-year-old's funeral took place at Oakley Woods on Monday (March 11). Parminder Singh Birdi, town business owner and chamber of trade member, described him as a “great humanitarian.” He added: “He was a much respected elder member and a perfect ambassador for the Sikh Community, his life was devoted to fighting unjust causes and the care of the needy. We will find it difficult to fill that void. “He was an
unusually gifted man and preacher, engaging the youngest children and University dons alike from the time that he arrived in Leamington in 1972. “At the time of his death he was doing what he loved best; providing the Sikh community with the benefit of his accumulated wisdom as part of a debate. “He was a man on unrivalled integrity with an unlimited supply of empathy and compassion.” A family member added their thanks to members of the congregation and paramedics who had tried to revive him, adding: “Our father passed away peacefully in a place amongst friends that he loved and one could not ask for more.”
