Op/Ed – Sadda Haq: Unprecedented Canadian Support &     
                  Message from the Producer!
It's been less than a week since independent film, Sadda Haq released and it's already topping the charts with unprecedented reviews and waves of support from the Punjabi community across Canada. With showings continuing to sell out up to 24 hours in advance across the country, multiple generations of families viewing together (for some their first time at a theater), jakareh roaring in packed theaters, tears overflowing and raw emotions of vindication, silenced memories and inspiration being expressed, it is clear, we are experiencing our community rally together in unity for a cause larger than our individual selves.
     The Canadian Sikh Coalition (CSC) is privileged to be the official distributor and representative of the "Sadda Haq" team across Canada; a service of the Sikh Panth allowed for by the the makers of the film. Opposite to positive global response, uproar and controversy over the film and the ban, is being led by Punjab's corrupt leaders and the Indian Union. It is evident that the film's factual foundation has shaken the corrupt grounds upon which the dictators have stood comfortably on for far too long.    
        The film's truth telling endeavour has served as a revolutionary mechanism stirring the global Sikh community's desire for anti-corruption, anti-oppression and healing for Punjab. The continued unprecedented support from not only the Canadian sangat, but sangats all across the world has shown the current rulers of Punjab that regardless of the ban, that the Sikh Kaum will not be silenced and will not continue to sit idle when their freedoms and dignity are challenged.
     The CSC is the Canadian proponent of the "Sadda Haq" team and will continuously update the sangat on their progress in the struggle to ensure the film's release in Punjab. The ban has been a feeble attempt to stifle and discourse on the continued crimes of the State and the issue of Punjab's sovereignty. From educational events and political lobbying, to revolutionary music and inspiring films the CSC commits to continue to engage all avenues available to push the struggle forward for a sovereign anti-oppressive Punjab.
As long as the oppression and suppression of the Sikh community continues, it will not be long before a sustained movement for freedom and independence begins and forces the idle and complacent Punjabi to see the true conditions in which they live. CSC Director and Lead Organizer for Sadda Haq in Canada, Parvkar Singh said "As "Sadda Haq" is set to become the highest grossing Punjabi film to ever hit theatres in Canada, the Canadian Sikh Coalition would like to thank every individual who has supported the movie.
We ask that you continue the provision of your support and show your own form of resistance by watching the film, sharing its story with your family and friends and urging all those around you to do the same. The Canadian Sikh Coalition will continue to act as the representative of the "Sadda Haq" team in Canada and do anything in its power to ensure the film is successful and that its makers receive the accolades and recognition they rightly deserve so that they may continue to produce projects such as this.
