Shoe Hurled at Judge in 1984 Sajjan Kumar Case
NEW DELHI (April 30, 2013)–After the Karkardooma court acquitted Congress leader Sajjan Kumar in 1984 anti-Sikh pogrom case, All India Sikhs Students Federation President Karnail Singh Peer Mohammad hurled a shoe at the judge inside the courtroom. Karnail Singh was later arrested.
His lawyer said that he hurled the shoe not with the intention to hit the judge, but to express failing in the judicial system in India. He added that Karnail Singh was ready to face the consequences.
The acquittal of Sajjan Kumar resulted in protests outside the trial court. A shoe was also thrown at the judge inside the court reportedly. “If Sajjan can’t be hanged, then I should be hanged,” said Jagdish Kaur, a witness and petitioner in the case.
