Dear Mr. Joe Mohinder Singh Sohi (
Thanks a lot for pointing out this short-coming as most of us have been propagating incorrect terminology.
I agree with you that the Sikhs Congregation Hall should be described as “GURDUARA SAHIB”, followed by the name of place where it is situated. It should not be called as ‘Guru Ghar or
“GURDUARA SAHIB” [Sikhs’ Congregation Hall] and place where it is situated.
Also while taking up issue of “Kirpaan”, ASA should point out that in accordance with the Australian Customs
Guidelines, The Kirpaan is not a prohibited import. Although its length is not mentioned, its size should be:
“The total length of the ‘Kirpan’ should not exceed 22.86 CMs (9 inches) and the length of the blade should not exceed 15.24 CMs (6 inches).” At the same time, we need to understand that Kirpaan with Gatra has the same meaning, purpose and significance as “sword” in baldric well explained in the English Dictionaries.
Thanks,
Gurmit Singh, ASA Patron Member
Such an important day when the Hon PM visits a Sikh gurdwara and the aloof Sikh is mentioning "SIKH TEMPLE" while being interviewed, may be they can learn from the Jews, they are much less in population than us but they put their foot down and went worldwide to stop people calling their place of worship a Jewish Temple but rightfully it should be called a synagogue, after more than 500 yrs of Sikhism, these 'learned Sikhs' are still calling a Guru Ghar as a Sikh Temple,
CHURCH, MANDIR, DHARMSALA, MASJID, KUIL, GURDWARA (NOT SIKH TEMPLE)
