Missing saroops: 15 SGPC members asks Longowal to make probe report public by Oct 18

Increasing headache for the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) beleaguered on the issue of missing 328 holy saroops of Guru Granth Sahib, 15 of its elected members have written a letter to its president Gobind Singh Longowal giving him a 15-day ultimatum to make the inquiry report of this case public.
Signed by members including two-times executive member Baba Gurmeet Singh Tiloke Wala, Bhai Gurpreet Singh Randhawa, Sewa Singh Sekhwan, former executive member Amrik Singh Shahpur, Jaspal Kaur and Mohinder Singh Hussainpur, the letter asks the SGPC chief to make the full 1000-page report public by October 18.
The gurdwara body has declassified only 10 pages of the report yet claiming that this is the final portion of the report and has the conclusion of the inquiry done by Telangana High Court lawyer Ishar Singh-led panel constituted by Akal Takht Sahib.
“If the report is not made public, we will be left with no option but to take legal action on our own against the guilty,” reads the letter.
The letter further reads, “The SGPC office bearers including its chief have mishandled the issue of missing saroops and the 2016 fire incident that damaged the holy saroops massively. Successive office bearers of the gurdwara body have been misleading and misinforming the community regarding the fire incident. This has not only hurt sentiments of the Sikhs, but also hit the reputation of the SGPC”.
“Keeping in view of this, the demand is being raised for making the probe report public but surprisingly the demand is not being addressed. Besides, the SGPC incumbent executive committee first passed a resolution to file criminal cases against its staffers held guilty in the report, but during the next meeting, it made a u-turn on this issue by withdrawing this resolution. This act also tarnished the image of the SGPC”, states the letter.
The Punjab Human Rights Organization (PHRO) which exposed the misappropriation in the SGPC that led to the saroops going missing, claimed that the fire incident was hidden to save the then SAD-BJP government from public wrath when the issue of Bargari sacrilege was already burning and the next assembly polls were close.
The sources said former Akal Takht Sahib jathedar Bhai Ranjit Singh may announce a big programme under the banner of “Panthik Akali Lehar” against the SGPC on this issue. On the other hand, an indefinite morcha continues outside Teja Singh Samundri Hall, headquarters of the gurdwara body.
Meanwhile, several SGPC members have asked the SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal to publicize Advocate Ishar Singh led probe committee’s full report about the missing 328 holy saroops of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.However, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal has said that there was no need to publicize the full report as the 10-page briefing of this report has brought forward every fact about the missing saroops.
