CHANDIGARH, Punjab—A new novel named The Last Queen portraying the life-sketch of the Sikh queen Maharani Jindan Kaur is all set to hit the market by the beginning of next year. This novel has been penned by a renowned American-Indian writer Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni.
  It is learned that this novel is being published by HarperCollins India and it will be released in January 2021.
  Houston based writer Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni says the strength and resolute courage of Maharani Jindan Kaur in her toughest times has always struck her. “Maharani Jindan Kaur has been an inspiring companion to me through these troubled times,” she said while expressing delightedness to have portrayed the life-sketch of amazing and largely forgotten Maharani Jindan Kaur in her novel.
  Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni trusts that the life-sketch of Maharani Jinda Kaur will help in gaining the courage to fight against odd circumstances as she gained.
She also expresses happiness over her book been optioned by Endemol Shine for a movie.
  Maharani Jindan Kaur was the last queen of great Sikh ruler Maharaja Ranjit Singh. She became active in politics after her six-year-old son Maharaja Duleep Singh was declared the successor of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
  During her whole life, Maharani Jindan Kaur remained committed to protect the last successor of the Sikh empire i.e. Maharaja Duleep Singh. She never trusted the British rulers and fought aggressively against them. 
  As per the publishers, this new novel The Last Queen highlights the rare love story of a King and an ordinary woman, a tale of trust and betrayal, and strong bonding between the mother and her son.
