New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a blistering attack on the Modi government over farm laws, saying the country is being run by four people. Though Gandhi didn’t mentioned anybody’s name, he was apparently referring to Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and two leading businessmen of the country.
During the budget debate, the Congress MP from Wayanad raised the issue of three contentious farm laws in Lok Sabha and cited old family planning slogan, firing ‘hum do, humare do ki sarkar’ jibe at the central government.
Participating in a debate on the budget, Gandhi alleged that the three fresh agri laws passed during the Monsoon session in 2020 would allow industrialists to buy unlimited quantity of foodgrains and hoard them. He further alleged that the Acts will destroy India's food security system which would hurt the rural economy.
“Let us discuss the content and intent of the farm laws. The content of the first farm law is to end the mandis. The second law will allow hoarding by amending the Essential Commodities Act and the third law doesn't allow farmers to approach court in case of a dispute," Gandhi said in the Upper Hosue amid huge opposition from the BJP members.

While addressing the House, PM said that the Opposition is talking about the agitation but not about the content and intent of Farm Laws. I thought I should make him happy today and speak on the content and intent of the laws, the Congress MP said in Lok Sabha.
Further attacking the Congress over the farm laws, the Gandhi scion said, "It's not a farmers' agitation but of the country, farmers are only showing the way". He said the Centre will have to repeal the Acts.
Responding to Gandhi's attack, Union Minister of State for Finance & Corporate Affairs and BJP leader Anurag Thakur took a dig at the Congress leader, saying some members don't know the rules of the House as they normally are absent from the sittings and also from the country.
"A senior MP was speaking before me, so I thought he must be knowing rules of this House and that if one issue has already been discussed, it is not discussed again. Secondly, I can understand that he was not prepared to speak on Budget," Thakur said.
MSP, Mandi system to continue: PM Narendra Modi:
Gandhi's comments come after Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi on February 8 assured the farming community that the laws passed by Parliament were the need of the 21 century India and would majorly help the farmers.
While replying in Rajya Sabha on Monday to a debate on the President's address, PM Modi assured the farmers that Minimum Support Price and mandi system will continue to exist.
"I assure you that Mandis will be modernised. Not just this, MSP was there, it is there and will remain. Cheap ration given to over 80 crore people will continue. Please do not try to spread misinformation. We also need to strengthen means to increase the incomes of farmers," the prime minister said.
