CHANDIGARH, Punjab (February 17, 2014)—Renowned Sikh thinker and former IAS officer Gurtej Singh, in a statement published by The Times of India, has denied all claims of letters written by Akali leaders to various top official of Indra Gandhi government to be fake. Gurtej Singh has alleged that the letters written before before attack on Sri Darbar Sahib are fully genuine.
Some of these letters are in public domain and were also been published by Gurtej Singh in his book “Chakravyuh—Web of Indian Secularism” in 1999.
Gurtej Singh who also played role of advisor of Sant Jarnail Singh Bhindrawale, said that Sikh Reference Library incharge late Devinder Singh Duggal had told him that these letters were genuine.
“A few of these letters came out, and Duggal confirmed their genuineness as he was asked to type such letters and even kept their photocopies”, he said.
“When we met sometimes after attack on Sri Darbar Sahib, he assured that he would provide more such letters but he died before our next meeting”, he added.
It is notable that the former IAS officer served as joint secretary in home department Punjab in late seventies.
These letters, if genuine, leave no doubt that Akali leaders including Harchand Singh Longowal, Parkash Badal, Surjit Barnala, Gurcharan Singh Tohra were responsible for the attack on Sri Darbar Sahib.
