Dear Dr. Harjinder Singh Dilgeer,   Waheguru jee ka Khalsa  Waheguru jee kee Fateh   Many thanks for your Attached Article in Punjabi, which explains the different aspects of “Nanakshahi Calendar”. As and when you receive any response from Dr. Pal Singh Purewal of Canada, please do share because he knows opposite seasons in Australia as he had visited in November 2003 and June 2011 for promoting his Almanac Research.
As you have clarified all the points, I have nothing to comment but I wish to add that the Indian Govt. had already commenced The National Calendar on Chaitra 1 Saka, 1879 corresponding to March 22, 1957 A.D. from Chaitra to Phalguna. Since NSC has also started from Chet/Chaitra and ends with Phagun/Phalguna, then it is nothing but copy of the Indian National Calendar by difference of 7/8 days, which gap is being eliminated by further modification in 2010 so that SGPC and Parbandhaks of the various Gurduaras Sahib all over the world continue to celebrate “Sangrand” every month based on 2003 and 2010 Jantries.
Further, I am of the view that past historical Dates can’t be altered due any subsequent change of a different almanac. If at all there is a dire necessity to have a separate Calendar, let the Sikh Nation first agree to the actual date of Birth of Guru Nanak Sahib i.e. out of four floating Dates viz. 27th March, 14th April, 15th April, 20th October, 1469 and then commence Sikh Calendar from that Date by following the Greenwich Time and CE Calendar, which is in vogue all over the world.
As pointed by you, the Sikhs in UK, Canada, USA, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Malaysia,Thailand, Africa, South America and all other countries continue to lead their daily life accordingly. Even in Punjab and other Indian States have been following CE, except while celebrating Sangrand, Pooranmashi, Massaya, Diwali, Maghi, etc. though Sikhs have nothing to do with these days.
With best wishes and Charhdi Kalaa,
Gurmit Singh (Sydney-Australia)
