SRI ANANDPUR SAHIB, Punjab (July 7, 2015)—Clearing payment of Sri Anandpur Sahib whitewash project is proving much difficult task for Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC). It has sought a help of Rs 2.5 crore from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee to meet the expenses.
The DSGMC took the responsibility of whitewashing all the buildings of Sri Anandpur Sahib in wake of the town’s 350th foundation day which was celebrated on large scale. Around Rs 5 crore has been estimated as total cost of the project. As per media reports, the work was suspended on June 17 as nearly Rs 1 crore was lying pending against the wages of labourers.
Few days ago, the DSGMC officials had claimed that the work would resume within a week. However, the work could not be started due to the lack of funds. Also, DSGMC president Manjit Singh GK and general secretary MS Sirsa are planning to leave for the USA and the work would reportedly start only after they return on July 16.
DSGMC member Kulwant Singh Bath, who is looking after the work at Anandpur Sahib, said they had sought nearly Rs 2.5 crore from the SGPC. He said the SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar had assured them of all possible help and told them that he would discuss the issue in executive panel meeting.
