AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab (October 1, 2015)—While the president of the SGPC, Avtar Makkar, has expressed solidarity with the decision of five Singh Sahibs of pardoning Gurmeet Ram Rahim, some other SGPC members have stood up to express their dissent at last.

SGPC General Secretary Sukhdev Singh Bhaur has termed the verdict as “humiliating”. Talking to a correspondent of Sikh24, he said that he is feeling disheartened after getting apprised with the verdict. “I didn’t expect this from Sri Akal Takht Sahib and this verdict has really surprised me,” he added.
SGPC member and grand-daughter of Master Tara Singh, Bibi Kiranjot Kaur has also reacted strongly against the verdict of the five Takht Jathedars. She termed it rumbling of the Sikh customs by Takht Jathedars under political pressure of the RSS. “Jathedars might have summoned Gurmeet Ram Rahim and asked to tender apology,” she posted online.
Sukhjit SIngh Logharh, another SGPC member currently on a tour of the United States was also contacted by Sikh24 for his comments. Lohgarh said that he stands with the logic of forgiveness and maintaining harmony, however asked the Jathedars to maintain Sikh traditions and consider Sikh sentiments before deciding upon such issues.
