Good balanced article as usual of S. Kulwant Singh Dhesi ji.
My own view in this week's Panjab Times (UK), expressing some doubt about the advisability of this meeting at this juncture, is along the following lines:
".......... The longer term need is foropen and accountable talks with any Indian government in power at working andsenior political levels. On the Sikh side, all main parties should be involved, including those representing Sikh grassroots and
those who have a Sikh homelandagenda. Regardless of their personal views, those acting on behalf of the SikhCouncil UK should have kept Sikh unity around one table in mind.............Pathicorganisations were carefully left out [of this meeting].
A cynical view expressed by some likeLord Indarjit Singh’s Network of Sikh Organisation in a statement is asfollows: “It was sad tosee the photo of self-serving Sikhs, desperate to seem important, crowding fora photo opportunity with Mr Modi. Absurdly, some said that they hadsignificantly advanced the Sikh cause by welcoming Mr Modi. The realwinner was Mr Modi who tweeted the photo to his 16 Million followers, to showall moderate Sikhs are with him. A spectacular own goal by UK Sikhs.”
Inclusive Sikh unity around one table is moreimportant than any publicity and doubtfulpromises secured at the expense of such unity. ""
