How the River Waters Dispute May Change the Course of Punjab Politics:
*The Sutlej Yamuna Canal Acts passed BY AKALI-BJP and CONGRESS as only ‘token symbolism’ so far, Captain Amarinder Singh proving like it in his own words. *
*While Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president Capt Amarinder Singh has rightly exposing AKALI-BJP and especially Badals’ family rule in Punjab terming the passage of ‘The Punjab Sutlej Yamuna Link Canal Land (Transfer of Property Rights) Bill, 2016’ as mere a ‘token symbolism’ while asking Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to do something sincere and serious which must prove that his intentions were genuine and accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of “actually trying to run away from the real responsibility”.*
*But at same time, it is like proving that he (Captain Amarinder Singh) as a Chief Minister of Punjab did similarly passed the Punjab Termination of Agreements Act, 2004, which is before the Supreme Court for hearings on the validity of the Punjab Termination of Agreements Act-2004 now.*
*“Elections in the state are less than a year away but a Supreme Court decision on the sharing of waters with Haryana may end up having major implications for all the parties in the fray.*
*In case the Supreme Court rejects the Act passed by Capt. Amarinder Singh, the river waters will be on the boil again. This may well become the main issue in the upcoming state elections. Since it is Capt. Singh who is
responsible for the Act, this would augur well for the Congress.*
*Incidentally, Capt. Amarinder Singh had defied party chief Sonia Gandhi and then-Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s authority by not consulting them before enacting the legislation in 2004.*

*PUNJAB Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday termed the passage of the SYL bill in the assembly as mere ‘token symbolism’ and accused Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal of “actually trying to run away from the real responsibility”.*
*“Your job does not end merely in getting a unanimous resolution passed in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha and passing it off to the Governor,” Amarinder said, directing his remarks at the chief minister. The PCC president
maintained that since the ball was in the Centre’s court, the Governor could hardly act on his own.*
