Posted: 28 Feb 2017

AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—Speaking with Sikh24 earlier today, February 28, SGPC executive member and general secretary Amarjit Singh Chawla informed that a portrait of former Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurdev Singh Kaonke will be installed at the central Sikh museum within the Golden Temple premises. Notably, Jathedar Gurdev Singh Kaonke was extra-judicially abducted and martyred by the Punjab police in December, 1992.

Amarjit Singh Chawla further informed that the portraits of Shaheed Bhai Harminder Singh Dabwali and Prof. Piara Singh Padam would also be installed in the Central Sikh Museum.
He further informed that the request of Chief Secretary of SGPC Harcharan Singh has been accepted by the SGPC to decrease his monthly salary from Rupees 300,000 per month to Rs. 100,000 per month.
Sikh leaders have appreciated the move by the SGPC to honour Giani Gurdev Singh Kaunke by installing his portrait at the Central Sikh Museum.  Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar) senior leader S. Narinder Singh Khusropur hailed the SGPC’s initiative of installing portraits of Sikh martyrs at central Sikh museum. Terming it as a belated initiative, Khusropur has said that portraits of all the Sikh martyrs who laid lives while defending the Sikh faith ought to be installed in the central Sikh museum.
Central Sikh Museum is a site with a collection of exceptionally rare and historical Sikh images. In addition to some of the first images ever produced of Shri Harmandir Sahib, you will also find rare paintings of Sikh Gurus, pictures of historical and precious art facts which are all accompanied with detailed description
