Kavneet Singh presenting to the Scouts at the First Baptist Church
American Sikh Council (ASC) representative Kavneet Singh was invited to speak on Saturday morning March 29, 2025 at the Ten Commandment Hike which was held at the First Baptist Church in Haddonfield, New Jersey.
The Hike is open to all Scouts, families and friends. The Hike is a unique and exciting way to embrace all Faith communities, as well as to learn more about the history and uniqueness of each House of Worship or Prayer, in the old historic town of Haddonfield. The Hike entails with the entire group walking and stopping at various houses of prayer and is also a great way to show that citizens live the words, ‘Duty to God’, not just say them. It’s a unique and exciting way to embrace the concept of respect for religious differences, learn local history, participate in community service, and have fun. It allows all participants to visit different houses of worship or prayer. For various Christian denominations a Scout representative from their respective religion explaining one of the (Christian) Ten Commandments. For Scouts of other religions, they simply explain the principles of their religion and share it with others.

Kavneet Singh did a presentation by explaining the Sikh principles and the unique Sikh identity by interwoven with some of the Christian commandments. Kavneet Singh made his presentation interesting by asking them questions so as to make it more interactive. This event was enthusiastically attended by over a 70 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and adults from various religious backgrounds. Not only were the scouts curious but the adults showed a keen interest in learning as it was an eye-opener for many. The feedback and comments at the end of the presentation were overwhelmingly positive. One Scout even requested to have a turban tied in order to understand more.
ASC has initiated the Scouting program years ago. Kavneet Singh chairs the National Sikh Scouting program and serves on the National Religious Relationship Committee of Scouting America since 2014.
ASC continues the two decades long work in Scouting, while impacting over 200,000 Scouts and recruiting a few hundred Sikh American youth into Scouting. www.sikhscouts.net
