SGPC marks 184th Martyrdom Anniversary of Sikh general Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa

The apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee today marked the 184th martyrdom anniversary of great Sikh general Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa at Gurdwara Diwan Hall Manji Sahib situated in Sri Darbar Sahib complex.
A religious program was organized on this occasion to pay homage to the martyrdom of great Sikh martyr Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa in which Hazoori Raagi Bhai Jagdeep Singh performed Gurbani Kirtan following the culmination of Sri Akhand Path Sahib.
Bhai Gurcharan Singh performed Ardas on this occasion, while Kathavachak Bhai Harmittar Singh shed light on the life history of Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa. He apprised the sangat about the role played by Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa in the expansion of the Sikh Empire’s boundaries.
Sardar Hari Singh Nalwa (1791–1837) was Commander-in-chief of the Sikh Khalsa Fauj, the army of the Sikh Empire. He is known for his role in the conquests of Kasur, Sialkot, Attock, Multan, Kashmir, Peshawar, and Jamrud. Hari Singh Nalwa was responsible for expanding the frontier of the Sikh Empire beyond the Indus River right up to the mouth of the Khyber Pass.
At the time of his martyrdom, the western boundary of the empire was Jamrud.
During his tenure, he also served as a governor of Kashmir, Peshawar, and Hazara. He established a mint on behalf of the Sikh Empire to facilitate revenue collection in Kashmir and Peshawar.
