Thousands Attend 27th Martyrdom Anniversary of Bhai Satwant Singh and Bhai Kehar Singh

GURDASPUR, Punjab—27th martyrdom anniversary of Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Kehar Singh was observed at village Agwan yesterday. Thousands of Sikh devotees paid tribute to their sacrifices. Following the culmination of Sri Akhand Path Sahib, renowned Panthik personalities paid homage to the martyrs.
Hazoori Ragi Jathas of Bhai Karamjit Singh, Bhai Jabartod Singh and Bhai Jaswinder Singh brought the spirit of “Chardi Kala” to the Sikh devotees by singing bir-rus kirtan. Kavishari Jatha of Bhai Kulwinder Singh Bhinder and Dhadi Jatha of Bhai Surjit Singh Waras apprised the Sikh devotees with the sacrifices made by the martyrs to reinstate the proud of Sikhs.
Addressing the Sikh devotees, Singh Sahib Giani Maan Singh said that observing martyrdom anniversaries of martyrs is the duty of the Sikhs. He said that the life of a community is prolonged with the sacrifices of the martyrs.
Former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, Bhai Jasbir Singh Rode said that by punishing Inidra Gandhi for her crimes, Shaheed Bhai Beant Singh, Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh and Shaheed Bhai Kehar Singh elevated courage and pride within the Sikhs. He said that the Sikh community can never pay for the sacrifices made by these martyrs.
Shaheed Bhai Satwant Singh’s mother, Bibi Piar Kaur was honoured with Siropao (robe of honour) on this occasion. Amrit Sanchaar (Khalsa initiation) was also performed on this occasion, and several persons partook in the ceremony.
