HOUSTON, Texas, USA—Alongwith 16 other floats and 30 marching groups of different religions in the world, the Sikhs also took part in the Dr. Martin Luther King Day Parade of Houston.
Located in the state of Texas, Houston is the fourth biggest of city of the United States and the parade is considered to be the third largest parade in the country.
A display of martial skills by the Miri Piri Gatka Academy was witnessed a large audience in the parade. The message of Ten Sikh masters to love humanity and respect other religions were beautifully delivered by participating Sikhs with the help of mementos with translated Gurbani inscribed on them. Most of the Sikhs participated in this parade by wearing traditional attire and Dumalas. The participating Sikhs tirelessly manifested their martial skills in the two hours long parade, despite extremely cold weather.
Talking with Sikh24, Jathedar of Miri Piri Gatka Academy Bhai Gursharan Singh said that the parade acted as best source for American Sikhs to preach their identity among other US resident communities. He said that his Academy students have been participating in different parades in the US and recently they had participated in the parade on Thanks Giving Day too. He said that in future he will continue participating in parades across America.
