The election is a clear contest between the Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party with leaders of both the parties campaigning in the state and accusing the other over one issue or another. A bitter war of words has already been witnessed between Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On February 19, Congress president Rahul Gandhi will begin his campaign with a three-day tour of the state. He is scheduled to tour the districts of Bellary, Koppal, Raichur, Yadgir, Gulbarga and Bidar, in northernmost parts of the state, from February 10 to 13.
In 2013 Karnataka elections, Congress had won 122 seats in the 224-member Assembly, BJP 40, JDS 40. Even though the BSP had contested the last Assembly elections, it failed to open its account in the state.
Karnataka is scheduled to go to polls this year..
