High Court Directs Punjab Government to Submit Justice Ranjit Singh’s Investigation Report

24 Aug 2018 09:11 AM PDTCHANDIGARH—Acting on the petition moved by Bapu Sadhu Singh, the Punjab & Haryana High Court today directed the Punjab government to submit the investigation report of Justice Ranjit Singh Commission. Bapu Sadhu Singh, father of Shaheed Bhai Gurjit Singh Nikke Sarawan, has moved this petition seeking implementation of Justice Ranjit Singh’s recommendation of compensations for the victim families.
Appearing on the behalf of Bapu Sadhu Singh, Advocate RS Bains informed the Justice Jitendra Chauhan led High Court bench that a previous commission (Justice Zora Singh Commission) investigating sacrilege incidents and police firing had recommended compensation of Rs 25 lakh, but it remained unimplemented.
Following this, the High Court bench ordered the Punjab government to submit the report on Kotkapura and Behbal Klan police firing incidents.
Although the Punjab government requested the court for more time to go through the report, but the request was turned down by the Court.
It is learnt that the Court has left it to the state government to decide whether it wanted to submit the report to the court in a sealed cover or openly.
