CHANDIGARH, Punjab—The Sangrur police today presented a challan against the seven Sikh youths arrested for hurling a shoe on Sukhbir Badal’s cavalcade on October 4. Although the police have dropped section 307 of Indian Penal Code (attempt to murder charges) from the FIR but still the sections 148, 149, 186, 352, 353 and 427 stands intact.

After completing some formalities, the Court accepted the challan deferring next hearing onto December 15.
It is noteworthy here that six Sikh activists namely Bhai Bachittar Singh, Bhai Davinder Singh, Bhai Sukhwinder Singh, Bhai Manjinder Singh, Bhai Gurjit Singh and Bhai Gurjant Singh are being confined in Sangrur jail from the last two months while the seventh Sikh activist Bhai Amarjit Singh has not been arrested yet.
It may be recalled here that dozens of Sikh protesters had staged a protest against Sukhbir Badal by showing him black flags on October 4 when he was going to convene a party meeting at Gurdwara Nankiana Sahib (Sangrur) along with his cavalcade. Later, the Sangrur police had booked around 35-36 Sikh protesters including Bhai Bachittar Singh and Bhai Amarjit Singh under different sections on the complaint of SAD (Badal) spokesperson Vinarjit Goldy.

The bail pleas of these Sikh youths have been rejected twice by the Sangrur court on October 17 and December 1 respectively.
