1984 Sikh Genocide: Court Asks CBI to Speed Up Investigation of Case Against Jagdish Tytler
Posted: 31 Jan 2019 08:14 PM PSTNEW DELHI, India—A Delhi based Metropolitan Court of Magistrate Amit Arora on January 31 conducted hearing on a case pertaining to the 1984 Sikh genocide in which three Sikhs were burnt alive in a Gurdwara Sahib situated Pul Bangash area of Delhi on November 1, 1984.
Although, Jagdish Tytler was given clean chit thrice in this case, the case was reopened by the CBI in 2015 on the direction of Karkardooma Court when a survivor of this case Lakhwinder Kaur had challenged the CBI’s closure report.
During the hearing, the Court reportedly directed the CBI to expedite investigation of the case, while terming the case as an extremely sensitive. Beside it, the Court also asked the Forensic Science Laboratory to submit the final Lie Detection Test report of Abhishek Verma within two weeks.
Meanwhile, it is learnt that the Court has deferred next hearing on the matter onto March 8.
It is pertinent to note here that Jagdish Tytler had bribed the main witness of this case named Surinder Singh Granthi by settling his son Narinder Singh in Canada and providing him a large ransom of money with the help Arms dealer Abhishek Verma. Later, Abhishek Verma had admitted before the Court about his role in bribing the main witness of this case.
Recently, the Court had directed Jagdish Tytler and Abhishek Verma to undergo Lie Detection Test but Tytler refused to do so. However, Verma had agreed to undergo Lie Detection Test and his test was conducted at Forensic Science Laboratory situated in Rohini of New Delhi in October last year.
