President’s rule extended for six months in J&K; Amit Shah says Article 370 is temporary

28 Jun 2019 07:48 PM PDTNEW DELHI, India—On June 28, the Indian Home Minister Amit Shah said in the Indian parliament that the article 370 of Indian constitution was temporary and his saffron government is committed to “review” it. Notably, the article 370 of Indian constitution grants special status to the citizens of Jammu & Kashmir.
“I agree there is Article 370, but you have forgotten the word temporary before it. It is temporary, not permanent… Article 370 is a temporary provision of our Constitution, remember this,” Shah said while speaking on the resolution seeking extension of president’s rule in Jammu & Kashmir for six months.
It is learnt that the opposition leaders strongly opposed Shah’s contentions by saying that the J&K can’t be treated like other states.
Meanwhile, the vice-president of National Conference Omar Abdullah has strongly opposed the extension of president’s rule in J&K using Article 356.
