25 Jul 2019 08:52 PM PDTCHANDIGARH, Punjab—The apex Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhik Committee has announced to file a review petition against the Supreme Court’s decision of granting bail to 34 genocide culprits. Notably, the Supreme Court of India had granted bail to 34 genocide culprits on July 23 who were addressed five year sentence by the trial court for indulging in “rioting”, burning the houses of Sikhs and violating curfew in the East Delhi’s Trilokpuri area during the 1984 Sikh genocide.
Interacting with media in Talwandi Sabo on July 24, the SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal said that the Supreme Court’s decision of granting bail to 34 genocide culprits has twitched the hearts of Sikhs. “Observing the sharp outrage among Sikh masses, we have decided to file a review petition to get cancelled the bail granted to these genocide culprits,” he added.
Replying to a question on sacrilege issue, Longowal said that some parties have just played politics on sacrilege issue.
Before it, Longowal met the acting Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, who honored him with a Siropao (robe of honor) on this occasion.
SGPC members Jathedar Gurtej Singh Dhadde, Bibi Joginder Kaur and Bhai Jagsir Singh Mangeana, Bhai Manjit Singh Bappiana (member, Dharam Prachar Committee), Bhai Karan Singh (Manager, Takht Sri Damdama Sahib) etc. were also present on this occasion.
