Pehlu Khan Lynching Case: All 6 Accused Acquitted By Alwar Court
India
More than two years after Pehlu Khan was lynched after being accused of smuggling cows, the Alwar district court has acquitted all six accused.
Khan, a 55-year-old dairy farmer, was lynched in April 2017, when he was transporting cows to increase his produce for the month of Ramadan.
He was confronted by a group of cow vigilantes who beat him as well as two of his sons. His sons survived the beating but Khan succumbed to his injuries.
The police had arrested seven men in the case, based on video evidence and charged them under Sections 147, 323, 341, 302, 308, 379 and 427 of the IPC.
Pehlu Khan’s lawyer, on Wednesday, told news agency PTI that he expects the accused to be sentenced to life.
A CNN News18 report said that at the time of the incident, Khan even tried to show the purchase receipts to the vigilantes who did not care about it.
Over 40 witnesses have deposed in the case that concluded on 7 August.
