Notably, there were apprehensions that the historic Mangu Matt in Jagannath Puri (Orissa), where Guru Nanak Ji had uttered the Aarti in 1550, might be demolished as part of the Orissa Government’s plan to clear all structures within 250 feet of the boundary of the entrance of the Jagannath Temple for creation of a heritage corridor.
On the basis of information provided by a sub-committee of SGPC, which was sent to ground zero in Jagannath Puri, SGPC president Gobind Singh Longowal informed that no religious place has been demolished in Jagannath Puri instead the administration was working to beautify the surroundings as per the directions by the Supreme Court of India.
“The local administration of Jagannath Puri has promised the SGPC sub-committee comprising of SGPC member Gurmeet Singh Booh, Harjap Singh Sultanwind and Vice Secretary Skattar Singh that no religious place will be demolished instead the security of these places will be beefed up,” he added.
