Sikh Bulletin 2024 Issue 1

Dear Readers of The Sikh Bulletin,

We are pleased to deliver the latest issue of The Sikh Bulletin – 2024 Issue 1 (January-March 2024). The contributions within this Issue are as follows:

  1. The Editorial titled Temples and Mosques: Destroying One to Build the Other examines the Babri Masjid destruction and Ram Mandir construction in its place at Ayodhya to discover how such a move spilled over out into calls by Hindutva right wingers for Darbar Sahib to revert to a Vishnu Mandir. Chief Editor Karminder Singh Dhillon, PhD argues that should the issue be put forth before an Indian court – as the Ayodhya issue was – and should the decision be based on classical Sikh texts, the Hinduvta groups would have a slam dunk case.

  2. The Shabd Vichar section looks at a shabd of Guru Nanak ji in Sri Rag ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟੀ ਮੇਰੀ ਆਰਜਾ Koat Koti Meyri Aarja (SGGS 14). Karminder Singh Dhillon examines the spiritual messages within the shabd from the Tatt Gurmat perspective.

  3. Prof Tennyson Samraj, Phd of Burman University presents a bold and realistic plan for The Sikhs’ aspiration for the Khalsa state in his essay titled Khalsa State Modelled after the Vatican State.

  6. Harmanpreet Singh Minhas in his essay titled Auspiciousness and Ritualism talks about the illogic of both by drawing from a shabd of Guru Nanak ਜੇ ਕਰਿ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਮੰਨੀਐ ਸਭ ਤੈ ਸੂਤਕੁ ਹੋਇ ॥ Jay Kar Sootak Mannee-Ai Sabh Tai Sootak Ho-Ay (SGGS 472).

  7. Karminder Singh Dhillon, Phd provides a critical commentary on the qualifications sought by the SGPC in its quest to employ granthis at Darbar Sahib in his essay titled Granthi Wanted: SGPC Standards - What they are, and what they should be.
