bhai-jagtar-singh-hawara-chained-largeLONDON, UK (June 26, 2014)—Sikhs around the world have held special programs and leading organisations have urged the Sangat to take part in a joint Ardas on Sunday, 29th June, for the health of Jagtar Singh Hawara. For some months now, Bhai Jagtar Singh has been suffering from continued back pain which has now traveled down to his leg.
The SOPW India team regularly visit Bhai Hawara at Tihar Jail but on the last visit, Bhai Hawara was brought out in a wheelchair as he is now having difficulty walking.
Bhai Jagtar Singh Hawara is an athletic man in his early 40′s who likes to keep fit, but the torture that was unleashed on him over eighteen years ago upon his arrest and the rigorous of daily prison life, have all taken there toll.
So far, Bhai Hawara’s pleas for medical treatment have gone unheard. SOPW has received many messages of concern and we would like to reassure you that our legal team is taking the matter up with the relevant authorities in Tihar Jail. We have been supporting Bhai Jagtar Singh’s legal case for a long time now and understand the steps available to ensure Jagtar Singh Hawara receives immediate medical care to prevent the setback in his health from progressing.
We must follow procedure and remember that Jagtar Singh is only asking for his right according to jail manuals, just like any other prisoner has, to be seen by a doctor and his entitlement to medical treatment for his illness.
