NEW DELHI—Today, the All India Congress Committee expelled Congress leader and former MP, Jagmeet Brar for anti-party activities. The expulsion of Jagmeet Brar has been confirmed by the party’s general secretary, Shakeel Ahmed, who is in charge of Punjab affairs.
Confirming Jagmeet Brar’s expulsion, Shakeel Ahmed was warned a number of times by party officials to control his anti-party activities prior to 2017’s assembly elections.  Ahmed stated that Brar was consistently attacking Punjab Congress senior leaders.  Jagmeet Brar was seen as a detractor to Punjab Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh.  “He continued to make statements that were damaging to the Congress Party’s image despite our warnings to him,” said Shakeel Ahmed.
“Jagmeet Brar had promised me that he will not utter a word against other Congress leaders, but despite such assurances, he has continued to damage reputation of others,” Shakeel Ahmed said.
Chief of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, Captain Amarinder Singh, had been a target of Jagmeet Brar since the latter’s appointment as the state head of Congress. During the Khadoor Sahib poll in February of this year, when Congress called for a boycott of the poll, Jagmeet Brar visited the constituency and openly challenged the decision of Party’s high command.
Jagmeet Brar said that his side of the story wasn’t taken into consideration by the party’s high command when they decided to expel him. He claimed that he has been a target of Captain Amarinder Singh and Sukhbir Badal since both of them are afraid of him.
Shortly after his expulsion, Brar stated that he was sidelined because of differences with Captain Amarinder Singh.  “I have just received mail of General Secretary Shakeel Ahmad expelling me from the primary membership of the party. Joint statements by Amarinder’s core opponents against me makes my case more justified, Amarinder knows they are back stabbers, opportunists,” Brar posted on Twitter.
