Sarbjeet, a Punjabi inmate in Lahore Prison in Critical Condition
LAHORE, Pakistan (April 28, 2013)–Sarabjit Singh an Indian prisoner facing death row in Lahore’s Lakhpat Jail was assaulted by two prisoners. The two inmates identified as Mudassar and Amer had an argument with him following which they attacked him causing serious head injuries.
He has been admitted to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital where his condition is stated to be critical.
Meanwhile the Indian High Commission in Pakistan has sought two officers of Indian origin to be sent to Lahore to facilitate Sarabjit. Awaiz Sheikh , his lawyer  stated that in a meeting with Sarabjit a few days ago he apprehended a threat to his life. He stated that the execution of Afzal Guru had worsened his condition in jail and he was receiving death threats from fellow inmates.
The negligence on the part of jail authorities has led to the suspension of Assistant superintendent and warden of the jail after the incident.
His family members from India are expected to see him shortly in hospital.
Indian Government has long remained mute over Sarbjeet’s issue.  He was charged as an Indian spy conspiring to carry out terror related activities in Pakistan.
