TARN TARAN, Punjab (July 22, 2015)—In view of huge response for Bapu Surat Singh Khalsa’s struggle for release of Sikh political prisoners, Punjab Police has started collecting information about Amritdhari Sikhs, especially those wearing dumalas living in villages of Punjab. The practice has brought back memories from the days of repression and harassment of Sikhs during nineties.
The Police reportedly raided a number of villages including Ram Rauni, Thathi Sohal, Sohal, Gagobuha, Behniwal, Nikka Bhuchar, Vadda Bhuchar and Burj of Tarn Taran district yesterday to identify Amritdhari Sikhs living there.
As per information available with Sikh24, the police surrounded the villages to carry out search operation. Particularly, the police raided the houses situated in the fields and collected information about every family member.
The Police also raided homes of Sikh activists belonging to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee Chabal, Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee Gagobuha and Damdami Taksal Ajnala.
The Police raid seemed so important that the police personnel who came to raid were seen providing the information to their senior officers on the spot on mobile phones. They also sought information by specifically naming the Sikh activists.
Some sources say that main motive of the Police is to find out information on Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala who has going missing since July 19. The Police has also interrogated aides of Bhai Amrik Singh Ajnala about his whereabouts.
The villagers told that first they did not consider the police raid in connection with activists of Satkar Committee and Damdami Taksal Ajnala but they got astonished when the police started asking migrant labourers working in fields as to how many Amritdhari Sikhs live in the village.
