In wake of the heightened terror threat ahead of Republic Day, the Delhi Police today conducted back-to-back mock security drills in the city.
The first of the mock drills was conducted in the upscale Khan Market area in the evening. The second one was carried out in the busy Hauz Khas village. The security drills were done by a joint team of the NSG and Delhi Police.
Bomb disposal squads, quick response teams, emergency response vehicles, dog squads, fire tenders, ambulances were kept in loop during the exercise, whose prime objective was to check the alertness of the security forces amid a high alert situation.
Earlier in the day, the Intelligence Bureau issued a warning about a Paris-Jakarta-like attacks in Delhi, Kolkata and Mumbai by ISIS. The agency also warned that the ISIS was looking to target Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other dignitaries. An increase in activities in the camps of Lashkar-e-Taiba have also been reported.
According to the alert, 10-15 terrorists may carry out attacks in the three metro cities targeting famous shopping malls.
Every year before Republic Day, intelligence agencies issue a report on possible threats emanating from the various terror outfits. This year in its report, there is a special mention of ISIS call to youths to carry out attacks in their respective countries.
