AMRITSAR SAHIB, Punjab—A century old wooden eave was removed yesterday by the SGPC from ‘Har ki Pauri’ at Sri Harmandir Sahib.  SGPC has apparently taken this step due to the eave’s deteriorating condition caused by moisture and termite.  The eave will be replaced with a new eave build-up of steel, bronze and gold.
Addressing the media gathering in Sri Darbar Sahib, SGPC President Avtar Makkar informed that the SGPC did its best to save the wooden eave. He said that specialists were called to Sri Darbar Sahib, however much damage was already done by termite.
Sulakhan Singh Bhangali (Manager, Sri Darbar Sahib) informed that Bibi Maninder Kaur from Mumbai is sponsoring the new eave which will be installed shortly.  Explaining the architectural framework of the new eave, S. Bhangali said that the basic framework would be built with steel and a roof of bronze will be placed over it. He added that the eave would be given golden outlook by coating it with real gold.  “Installation of new metallic eave would take about six months for completion,” he added.
