17 Oct 2018 12:34 PM PDT—Bay Area’s Sikh Community has announced a partnership with the Golden State Warriors to commemorate the Sikh Awareness Month in November. As part of the partnership, “Sikh Community Night” will be held at the Warriors game on November 5 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland. The event is being organized by Gurdwara Sahib Fremont and San Jose, and SALDEF.
November is recognized as the Sikh Awareness Month in California. Throughout the month, Sikh community holds many incredible events like feed the hungry, blood donation camps, city government commemorations, etc. that helps boost much needed awareness about Sikhs. This year, Sikh community
has partnered with the Golden State Warriors to make the Sikh Awareness Month event a special experience for the Bay Area Sikh community.
Assembly Concurrent Resolution No. 147 which was signed in September 2015 “recognizes and acknowledges the significant contributions made by Californians of Sikh heritage to our state, and by adoption of this resolution, seeks to afford all Californians the opportunity to better understand, recognize, and appreciate the rich history and shared principles of Sikh Americans.” To view the full text of the resolution, please visit the California Legislative Publications Web page at http://leginfo.legislature.ca.gov/faces/billTextClient.xhtml?bill_id=201720180ACR122
“Warriors being the NBA champions, this is a huge opportunity for the Bay Area Sikh community to showcase their identity and enjoy the game. There will be many special experiences planned that every kid and adult will get an opportunity to participate based on raffle drawings,” said Kashmir Singh Shahi, Sikh leader from Fremont.
“In addition to enjoying a Warriors game together, there will also be fun fan experiences for Sikh kids where they will get to see the Warriors players up close.
The Golden State Warriors are giving away a free replica championship trophy to all ticket holders at the November 5 game,” he added.
Harpal Singh Mann, a Sikh leader of the Bay Area Sikh community and a Warriors fan said, “This is an excellent initiative and awareness, and of course you will always win with the Warriors!”
The ticket price will be $73 per seat. It’s important that attendees make their reservations in advance as the tickets will likely sell out. Ticket information is available here: http://bit.ly/SikhNight-Warriors-FGS
