Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh, Jathedar of Takht Sri Kesgarh Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh and Jathedar of Takht Sri Damdama Sahib Giani Harpreet Singh talked to Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana for about half an hour in the Central Jail of Patiala.
Sources have informed that the living martyr Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana handed over a letter to the trio Jathedars but the text of the letter couldn’t be confirmed.
Interacting with media, Giani Gurbachan Singh said that Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana has committed his life to the supreme Sikh throne Sri Akal Takht Sahib and the Shiromani Akali Dal is repeatedly making efforts to get his death penalty commuted to a life sentence. He expressed hope that the Union government will commute his death penalty keeping in view his good behavior during the imprisonment period he has been serving till date.
Titled as Living Martyr by Sri Akal Takht Sahib in 2012, Bhai Balwant Singh Rajoana is waiting for the conclusion of the mercy petition moved by the SGPC in 2012 seeking the commutation of his death penalty to life sentence. Bhai Rajoana’s hanging was stayed by the Indian President in March 2012 on being appealed by the SGPC and recommended by the Punjab government through a mercy petition.
