BJP says ‘will work towards removing Article 370 after garnering majority in Parliament’
Jammu, May 24 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday said the repeal of Article 370 continues to be its core ideology, adding that it would work on it whenever it achieves the two-third majority in the Parliament.
"As far as Article 370 is concerned, the whole issue of repealing this article will not see the light of the day until and unless there is a two-third of majority in the Parliament. The removal can only happen when there is two-third majority in the Parliament. But in future when we have the required mandate, we will work towards its removal," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told a press conference here.
"BJP's stand on Article 370 is the same. That is our core ideology and we can never deflect from that. But going by the mandate in J-K, it is normal that within the Common Minimum Programme, development is much important. PDP has a different ideology and ours is different. But the ideology of the people of Jammu Kashmir is one... which is development," he added.
He further said the BJP and People's Democratic Party are ideologically different, but both parties came together to provide a stable and pro-development government in Jammu and Kashmir.
Patra also accused the Congress Party of running a disinformation campaign against the BJP-led NDA Government at the Centre. He said that it was during the former UPA regime that major corporations were being benefited whereas the present government was pro-poor and working for their welfare. (ANI)
