BOOK REVIEW BY KAVNEET SINGH            (Part 2)
Chapter 7:
_Unlike Christian universities in Europe the Buddhist monasteries and universities did not_ _aim at cultivating the mind to understand and master the external world………[Page 129]_
Buddhism being a inward looking philosophy did not and could not develop an effective intellectual defense against the onslaught of Hinduism revived by Adi Shankaracharya which ultimately culminated in Buddhism’s doom.
_Mahatma Phule wrote, “Their arrogant arrogation of superiority to themselves over the_ _other Shudras would be exposed and their idle priestly class will not be able to fatten_ _itself at the cost of the Shudras…….How strange it is that these Brahmins when they eat_ _droppings and drink the urine of beasts [cows] that consume human excreta, but refuse_ _to drink the water of a fountain from the hands of a Shudra……[Pages_ _135-136]_
The greatest leader of the Dalits Phule is right on target when he points out the ridiculously dark and major deficiencies of Brahminism [Hindu-ism].
Chapter 8:
_“Who was William Carey?”…..was a botanist….introduced the steam engine to_ _India…..introduced the concept of Savings Bank in India……brought and taught modern_ _technologies of the printing press…..founder of the Agri-Horticultural Society in the_ _1820’s……was a Bible translator….into more than 40 Indian languages……introduced_ _the study of Astronomy……Pioneered the idea of lending libraries…..advocated forest_ _conservation…..was the first man to stand_ _against both the ruthless murders and the_ _widespread diabolical oppression of women…..was preacher who revived the ancient_ _idea that ethics and morality were inseparable from religion……he was_ _the pioneer of_ _modern missionary movement of the West….was an evangelist who used every available_ _medium to illuminate every dark facet of Indian life with the light of truth. He is the central character in the story of India’s modernization……[Pages 153-162]_
William Carey of England was a humble cobbler who became a trailblazer in the early 1800’s in the Indian sub-continent. This unspoken hero penetrated the soft underbelly of the Brahminical ruthlessness governing hundreds of countries and kingdoms which later got glued together and put on a platter and handed over to the Brahmins till today. A remarkable man whose vision was beyond his years and could have worked miracles if more people with ethics and guts carried on his mission.
