Rajasthan assembly receives 19,000 applications for dozen Class IV jobs

Rajasthan Assembly

There is a mad scramble for jobs at the Rajasthan state assembly. A dozen jobs for class four positions have been announced by the assembly administration and over 19,000 had applied for the same. The maximum education qualification for this job profile is completed Class 8, but around 18,000 applicants, who have been shortlisted for the interview are graduates and post graduates. A telling statement indeed on the craze for government jobs.
Around 1,500 applicants have been called for interview per post. The assembly staff has made elaborate arrangements to accommodate these applicants. The interviews will be held in three different rooms over two shifts. The shifts will be from 9.30 am to 1.00 pm and from 2.00 pm to 5.30 pm. They will continue till November 28.
Out of the twelve posts, four are for general category and the remaining eight are reserved. The applicants are running from pillar to post trying to arrange recommendations to add weight to their applications. A minister, an MP or an MLA is the favoured choice.
According to sources in the Assembly that did not wish to be named, "The job asked for educational qualification of class eight and most of the applicants who have applied are BA, BCom, BSc, even MA and MCom candidates have applied."
Added another source, "There are many applicants who are already in private jobs and earning salaries ranging from 20,000 to 30,000 and they have applied for this job where they will get around 18,000 to 20,000 in hand." "We asked many of they why they want to leave jobs and become peons and they told us they want the life long security and annual increments that come with the job."
But if one goes to the simple maths of the time that has been scheduled for the interview; 400 candidates will be interviewed in each room per day. The time scheduled is seven hours which is 420 minutes. This leaves every candidate with less than a minute's time to be interviewed.
